 | On August 20, 2007, the San Bernardino Police Department requested, and the CHP assisted with issuing, an AMBER Alert for the southern portion of California. Sometime on August 19, 2007, the suspect entered the residence of his ex-wife and murdered the ex-wife's boyfriend.
After committing the murder, the suspect drove to his mother's house in Rialto, CA, and took his four children; the suspect and children could not be located. Fearing for the children's safety, San Bernardino Police Department requested the AMBER Alert.
Within 30 minutes of publishing the AMBER Alert, a citizen who was traveling on a freeway and saw the AMBER Alert displayed on Changeable Message Signs spotted the suspect vehicle. The citizen phoned 911 and followed the vehicle until Rancho Cucamonga Area CHP officers could intercept it. The CHP stopped the vehicle, arrested the suspect, and safely recovered the children.
