Three Arrests in Latest DUI Checkpouint

The San Bernardino Police Department conducted a DUI/Driver License checkpoint in the 1300 Block of S. E Street from 6:00 PM to 11:30 PM on Friday, March 5, 2010. During the checkpoint, 412 vehicles were screened and 1 person was given field sobriety tests. 1 person was arrested for Driving Under the Influence, 2 people were arrested for outstanding warrants and 31 people were issued citations for various violations. 3 citations were issued for driving on a suspended or revoked license and 10 citations were issued to drivers who did not have a valid license. 10 vehicles were impounded. Of those, 8 were impounded for 30 days.

This program was part of San Bernardino Police Departments ongoing efforts to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes and to ensure that drivers have a valid license. DUI checkpoints are conducted to educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving while identifying offenders and getting them off the street.

All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers. A major component of these checkpoints is to increase awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and to encourage sober designated drivers. DUI/Driver License Checkpoints have proven to be an effective method of achieving this goal. By publicizing these enforcement and education efforts, the San Bernardino Police Department believes motorists can be deterred from drinking and driving.

Our objective is to send a clear message to those who are considering driving a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol and/or drugs – Drunk Driving, Over the Limit, Under Arrest. The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe. Report Drunk Drivers, Call 911.

Funding for this operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
