The San Bernardino Municipal Water Department (SBMWD) has partnered with Skydrop to test new Wi-Fi based irrigation controllers that are designed for specific soil types and continuously adapt to local weather conditions. These smart irrigation controllers automatically determine optimal watering schedules for homeowners based on several factors including weather conditions, soil type, plant type, sun exposure, and more. The easy to use interface is accessible through the controller, smartphone, tablet, or computer. By using the smart watering features of the Skydrop controller, the amount of water used for outdoor irrigation may be significantly reduced.
How does the program work?
The study is voluntary and by invitation only. All participants will recieve a free skydrop smart irrigation controller and a no-cost professional installation. There is no out of pocket cost to participate. Installations and irrigation audits will be performed by Skydrop technicians and should take between 30 and 60 minutes. Participants must be homeowners of properties within SBMWD's water service area and must have a continuous Wi-Fi signal capable of reaching the location of the irrigation controller.
