Friends of the San Bernardino Public Library Sponsors Summer Reading Program at SBPL with $8,000 Donation

SAN BERNARDINO, CA (FEBRUARY 21ST, 2018) - The Friends of the San Bernardino Public Library have donated $8,000 for its annual sponsorship of the Library’s Summer Reading Program at the four city libraries.

The Summer Reading Program themed this year as “Reading Takes You Everywhere” will begin Saturday, June 2nd.

“We greatly appreciate this annual sponsorship by the Friends of our Summer Reading Program,” said SBPL Director Ed Erjavek. “The Summer Reading Program is greatly valued for promoting early literacy and improving reading skills in our city.”

The donation covers various items including purchasing incentives for the participants. The incentives will include books, book bags, stickers, pencils, and assorted fun items for everyone.

The Summer Reading Program includes children, teens and adults.

In 2017, the library had 1,848 participants in the three categories, which was a 27% increase from the previous year.

“We are hoping to increase participation by having scheduled programs at each of the libraries,” said Erjavek.

The Friends’ sponsorship includes the cost of special performers for the main library and each of the branches, as well as the incentives.
