The San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra will entertain San Bernardino Public Library patrons with festive holiday music from two of their finest string musicians, principal cellist Ana Maria Maldonado and violinist Ellie Bunker. This free concert will take place at the Feldheym Central Library, 555 W. 6th Street, on Wednesday, December 11 from 2 to 4 PM. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be doing a special story time following the performance at 4 PM.
“We are excited to partner with the San Bernardino Symphony, one of our City’s best cultural gems, to provide our residents access to world-class classical music,” said Ed Erjavek, San Bernardino Public Library director.
Ana Maria Maldonado has served as principal cellist of the San Bernardino Symphony since 1983. Maldonado was awarded a J. D. Rockefeller Fellowship to promote Western Classical Music in Bangkok, Thailand, where she played in the Kennedy String Quartet. The Kennedy String Quartet traveled throughout Asia performing under the auspices of the United States Information Service. After leaving Thailand, Maldonado auditioned and won a cello position in the Heidleberg Stadtisches Opera Orchester in Heidelberg, Germany. Currently, she teaches at Cal State San Bernardino, Cal Poly Pomona, Chaffey College, Cal Baptist University, Riverside Community College and Claremont Community School of Music. She also has a private studio and is a freelance musician. Maldonado received her Master of Music in Cello Performance from the University of Southern California, where she studied with Gabor Rejto, and received her Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance from Texas Tech University.
In addition to her work with the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra and her work as assistant concertmaster for the Bakersfield Symphony orchestra, violinist Ellie Bunker has performed for many prestigious orchestras including the Mannheim Philharmonic and the Heidelberg Philharmonic. In her home base, Los Angeles, Ellie is a sought-after session musician performing on various films, TV, video games, commercial songs and sound libraries at top recording studios including Warner Brothers, Sony, Universal, The Bridge and Fox. She and husband Brian also operate and perform in The Atlantic Strings.
