The Friends of the San Bernardino Public Library are planning a used Book Sale on Saturday, May 14, 2016. It will be held in the Friends’ Room located at the rear of the Norman F. Feldheym Central Library, 555 W. 6th Street in San Bernardino. The member’s only sale is from 9 AM to 12 Noon. The public is welcome from 12 noon to 4 PM. Over 10,000 books will be available, for $1 or less. Ask about free reference materials for teachers.

The Friends of the San Bernardino Public Library welcome donations of used books and other materials such as videos, CDs, and DVDs that are in good condition. The Library staff will evaluate materials for addition to the collection in accordance with the Library Materials Selection Policy. Gift materials that cannot be used in the collection will be given to the Friends for sale in their bookstore, which in turn benefits the Library.

Makeda Mumasi will be appearing at the Feldheym Central Library to present a West African Dance Workshop for families on Saturday, March 19 at 3:00 PM. She will be bringing a member of her Umoja Ensemble for a drum accompaniment. Mumasi will also be doing a reading of her new picture poetry book, "I See Hip Hop Afrika".

San Bernardino Public Library to host a music program featuring the West African Kora
January 5, 2016
Musician Sean Gaskell will be coming from North Carolina to give a performance/educational demonstration on the Kora, an ancient 21-stringed harp from West Africa. He will feature traditional songs that are the heart and soul of the Koras musical repertoire, in addition to some of his own personal compositions. The performance will take place in the Bing Wong Auditorium at the Feldheym Central Library, 555 West 6th St. in San Bernardino, CA on Thursday, January 14th at 4pm.

Villasenor Branch Library shifts to "Winter Hours"
October 26, 2015
Hours at the Villasenor Branch Library of the San Bernardino Public Library will shift to "winter hours" beginning Monday, November 2, 2015. "The Library Board of Trustees wants the public to be able to make maximum usage of available library service hours," Library Director Ed Erjavek said in a news release. "Villasenor, which is at 525 N Mount Vernon Avenue, will now be open from 1 to 6 PM on Mondays and Tuesdays", he said. It had previously been open from 3 to 8 PM, and will return to those hours on March 14, 2016 after Daylight Saving Time returns. Hours on Wednesdays and Thursdays will remain at 10 AM to 3 PM.

Typically held during the last week of September, it highlights the value of free and open access to information. Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community –- librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types –- in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular. By focusing on efforts across the country to remove or restrict access to books, Banned Books Week draws national attention to the harms of censorship.

Edgar Allan Poe to visit the San Bernardino Public Library

These free workshop/writing sessions will be at the Feldheym Central Library in Kellogg Room A from 4:30-5:30 every Monday from October 6th through November 30th.

Steel Drum Performance & Drum Circle At the San Bernardino Public Library

As part of the Summer Reading Game theme, Read to the Rhythm, the San Bernardino Public Library will host Joseph Peck and his music of the Caribbean. Peck will provide a general overview of the steelpan (steel drum) and its origin. He will perform on the steel drum and then attendees will have the opportunity to play a percussion instrument in a drum circle. This all-ages free workshop will take place on Saturday, June 27 at 3:00 PM in the Kellogg Rooms at the Feldheym Central Library at 555 W. 6th Street in San Bernardino.

San Bernardino City Library Foundation Plans to Fund $306,000 San Bernardino Public Library Technology Upgrade Project.

Youth Art Month at the San Bernardino Public Library

The San Bernardino Public Library will be hosting a drawing class by artist and cartoonist Phil Yeh in observance of National Youth Art Month in March. The class will be open to ages 10 and up. It will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 from 2:00-5:00 PM in Kellogg Room A at the Feldheym Central Library. This class will help the new student as well as the advanced student to use the library to further increase your own drawing abilities. Yeh will also help you create your own characters.

The Feldheym Central Library will be a “Come Write In” center for participants in NaNoWriMo this year. Beginning on Wednesday November 5, the Feldheym Library will be open for NaNoWriMo writers. Drop in any time between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm. Bring your pen & paper or laptop and work on your novel in the company of other writers. Caffeine will be provided. These “Come Write In” events will be every Wednesday in November from 11:00 am-5:00 pm.

Artist and writer, Gaby Maya, will be visiting the San Bernardino Public Library on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. She will do a talk about some of the origins of manga and anime, as well as the influence of manga and anime in Mexico. Gaby says, "We have a culture here (in Mexico) where anime has been a bridge to close the generation gap between parents and kids. Because everyone has watched an anime they love, and thanks to the constant re-runs, they share it with their kids. It's something very Mexican, indeed."

The Main Ingredient - A Novel by Margo Wilson

The San Bernardino Public Library will host a presentation by Inland Empire award-winning author Jeri Westerson on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Feldheym Central Library at 555 W. 6th Street, San Bernardino. Westerson writes the critically acclaimed Crispin Guest Medieval Noir mysteries. Her brooding protagonist is Crispin Guest, a disgraced knight turned detective on the mean streets of fourteenth century London; encountering thieves, kings, poets, and religious relics. Her books have garnered nominations for the Shamus, the Macavity, the Agatha, Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice, and the Bruce Alexander Historical Mystery Award.
