SAN BERNARDINO –Operation Phoenix has received a grant from the Verizon Foundation that will provide tutoring services to children in the City of San Bernardino.

Verizon Foundation announced the award of a grant for $24,000 to the Operation Phoenix Foundation in September.  This literacy grant will provide intensive, remedial tutoring to 40 K-12 children in San Bernardino City during the 2011-2012 school year.

In an effort to reduce violence and gang related victimization among San Bernardino's youth, the city of San Bernardino is partnering with the Urban Youth Conservation Corps (U.Y.C.C), local Catholic charities, California State University San Bernardino and the San Bernardino National Forest. To assist their efforts, San Bernardino was awarded a $400,000 grant from the California Gang, Reduction, Intervention and Prevention Fund also known as Cal G.R.I.P.
