The Center for Individual Development (CID) is a regional recreation center that focuses on providing recreation programs for people of all ages with physical, developmental and mental disabilities. Seniors and individuals without disabilities are welcome to participate in many of CID programs. CID is operated under the auspices of the Authority for the Handicapped.
A Brief History of the CID
In 1975 Margaret Relph, founder of the Merri-Mixer Program, began to lobby the City of San Bernardino for a recreation center for people with developmental disabilities. On October 24, 1980, the Center for Individuals with Disabilities center opened. The center is now managed and operated by the City of San Bernardino Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department. The center would not be open today without the support of the Friends of CID, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fundraising activities, marketing for the CID and its programs.
