The City of San Bernardino's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

General Meetings

The City of San Bernardino's CERT Program hosts a monthly general meeting that is open to the public. The meeting is held on the third Thursday of every month at the San Bernardino Police Department Main Training Room. General business of the CERT team and general preparedness topics are discussed. Material presented when blended with proper CERT training, can help protect your family, neighbors, and co-workers if a disaster occurs.

Dates for upcoming monthly general meetings are announced on the Police Department's home page www.sbpdonline.org under the SBPD EVENTS section on the main page. Advance sign-ups for the meetings are not necessary. There is no cost to attend these general meetings and parking is provided for free.


SBConnect radio AM 1610
SBConnect radio, WQVK705, broadcasting on AM 1610 and streaming on the TuneIn mobile app, is the city's information station dedicated to providing listeners with city event, travel and emergency content. This station can broadcast throughout most of San Bernardino 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will provide real-time emergency information including: evacuations, road closures, emergency services and shelter during situations such as earthquakes, fires, power outages or other disasters. In an emergency, tune to AM 1610 on your radio.

Consider adding a simple hand-crank battery free emergency radio to your family inventory of emergency supplies. These radios are not expensive and available for many outlets.

Build an Emergency Kit

A disaster supplies kit is simply a collection of basic items your household may need in the event of an emergency.

Try to assemble your kit well in advance of an emergency. You may have to evacuate at a moment's notice and take essentials with you. You will probably not have time to search for the supplies you need or shop for them.

You may need to survive on your own after an emergency. This means having your own food, water and other supplies in sufficient quantity to last for at least 72 hours. Local officials and relief workers will be on the scene after a disaster but they cannot reach everyone immediately. You could get help in hours or it might take days.

Additionally, basic services such as electricity, gas, water, sewage treatment and telephones may be cut off for days or even a week, or longer. Your supplies kit should contain items to help you manage during these outages.
