The San Bernardino Hometown Heroes Military Banner Program is designed to honor military personnel who reside in the City of San Bernardino. In order to qualify as a participant, the honoree must be a retired, reserved, completed service, or active duty member of the United States Armed Forces and a current San Bernardino resident or have graduated from a High School in San Bernardino, or an immediate family member of a San Bernardino resident or City of San Bernardino employee, retired employee or a fulltime contract employee with one year of service with the City of San Bernardino (wife/husband, son/daughter, grandson/granddaughter, son-in-law/daughter-in-law).

Criteria

To qualify, honorees must meet the following criteria:

  • Active duty; Retired; Reserved, or Completed Service; and
  • Current City of San Bernardino resident; or
  • Have graduated from a high school or college in San Bernardino; or
  • Immediate family member of a current resident or City of San Bernardino employee, retired employee or a fulltime contract employee with one year of service with the City of San Bernardino (wife/husband, son/daughter, grandson/granddaughter, son-in-law/daughter-in-law).

Please note: annual verification of active-duty status will be required

What is the cost of each banner?

At this time, there is no cost for the Military Banner. There is a limit of one per service person.

Where will the banners be displayed?

The military banners will be on display on major streets throughout the City of San Bernardino Downtown Revitalization Zone.

How long will the banners be displayed?

For the initial return of the program, Military Banner applications submitted by April 30, 2023, will be printed and displayed from Memorial Day 2023 through November 2023 to honor Veterans Day.

The banners will then be reinstalled, new banners printed, for display from Memorial Day 2024 through November 2024. Applications must be received by April 30, 2024.

How can I sponsor this program?

Private donations from businesses or citizens are always welcomed. All funds are donated to a 501 (c) (3) and are considered tax deductible. These donations will be used exclusively for the Hometown Heroes Military Banner Program. Download the Sponsor Application today!

How can I order a banner?

Use the online Banner Application to submit your order online. If you prefer to fill it out offline, use this application link. To learn more about the criteria and guidelines surrounding the banner program, click here.

*NOTE: The spelling of the name will be taken directly from the order form. Lettering of the name and branch of service will be sized to fit the personalized area on the banner.

A color 5 x 7 image of the service person in their uniform can be mailed to:

Or you may also upload a high-resolution photo as you complete the on-line form. A high-resolution file refers to a 300-dpi image in a jpeg format. For those who don't have a scanner at home, FedEx Office center offers the service at all of their locations. For those with a smartphone, Google offers a free app called, PhotoScan. The app is available through Google Play and the Apple Store, and it is very user friendly and does a nice job with most photos.
