The City of San Bernardino has been awarded $995,000 by the County of San Bernardino to make improvements to Guadalupe – Sal Saavedra Field, a 2.25-acre park on Roberds Avenue in the westside of the city. The project will renovate the existing building & baseball field, upgrade lights, replace fences, install new bleachers and scoreboard, and install new park amenities.

“When I was a kid, I learned to play baseball at Guadalupe Field,” said San Bernardino Ward One Councilmember Theodore Sanchez. “This place means a lot to many of us in the community, and it is exciting to see it being renovated.”

The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved the expenditure on July 26 and will be using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for the project.

“This is a great investment in our kids, our families, and our community,” said County Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr., who worked with the City and the San Bernardino Pony League to develop a plan. “My father played fast pitch softball at Guadalupe Field and I spent many hours there growing up.”

Construction bids will be sought by the City in August or September with work on the project likely to begin later this year.
